If you are interested in getting started in research, the Undergraduate Research Office has a few workshops you can attend this fall:

Integrity in Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities
Sunday, Sep 10th, 2:00pm: 108 Bessey Hall
Professor James Pivarnik (MSU's Research Integrity Officer) will talk about the responsible conduct of research (RCR), identifying and defining federal definitions of research misconduct (falsification, fabrication, and plagiarism), and resources available on campus for undergraduate researchers. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions regarding adherence to RCR standards.

Make research an integral part of your MSU experience! Come learn about the opportunities available for involvement in research and creative activities at Michigan State. You can expect a short presentation, discussion, and Q & A facilitated by current undergraduate researchers.

Unpacking Your Research Experience
Wednesday, Oct 4th, 6:00pm: 113 Bessey Hall
Have you thought about how the skills you are gaining through your undergraduate research experience will assist you in the future? Come learn about strategies for communicating your abilities to others, such as graduate schools and future employers. This workshop will include information about creating an elevator pitch related to your research and an opportunity for you to critically reflect on the skills you have built by being involved in undergraduate research.

Troubleshooting Your Undergraduate Research Experience
Monday, Oct 16th, 5:15pm: 304 Bessey Hall
Intended for students who currently hold roles as undergraduate researchers, this panel discussion provides insight and suggestions on how to manage common challenges and problems. How can you establish an impactful working relationship with your supervisor? How do you manage to balance your academic, personal, and research responsibilities? How can you optimize your relationship with your faculty mentor? A panel of undergraduate researcher ambassadors will share their experiences and ideas.

Finding a Summer Research Opportunity
Wednesday, Oct 25th, 6:00pm: 307 Bessey Hall
There are a variety of summer opportunities available for students. Programs are hosted by colleges and universities around the United States and they provide an intensive research experience on a particular topic within a scholarly discipline. For undergraduates with plans for graduate or professional school after MSU, summer research provides the opportunity to expand your professional network and acquire experience in an area of interest. In this workshop, you will learn more about summer research, the benefits of participation, and effective search strategies, including how to find and apply for opportunities.
