MSU NatSci students earn Board of Trustees’ Award for scholastic excellence
Michigan State University College of Natural Science (NatSci) graduating seniors Zachary Bordeaux and Annette Kim received Board of Trustees’ Awards for maintaining the highest scholastic average at the close of their last semester of attendance at Michigan State University.
Bordeaux, who finished with a 3.98 GPA, and Kim, who finished with a 4.0 GPA, represented two of the six recipients acknowledged among the MSU graduates of Summer Semester 2017.
Kim, who graduated from West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South in New Jersey, was a neuroscience major and a communication arts and sciences minor for documentary film production. She served as an executive board member of MSU’s Active Minds and worked as an intercultural aide during her last two years at MSU.
“As a college student, receiving the award was part of my end goal,” said Kim, who hopes to work in the medical field. “Now, at the start of a new path in my life, it is part of the encouragement that tells me to believe in the abilities I have.
“The education I received at MSU helped me to go beyond the boundaries of a classroom and textbooks,” she continued. “I believe the skills and knowledge I learned helped me become a more rounded person who can understand not only my immediate environment, but also how many things are intertwined together in a complex net.”
Bordeaux, who graduated from Mona Shores High School in Muskegon, majored in human biology and will be attending medical school in the near future.
"I consider it an honor to have been selected out of the all the students at MSU striving to do their best,” Bordeaux said. “I feel it is a personal affirmation of the importance of working hard and staying focused on my goals.
“My time at MSU has provided me with a clear career path and the tools necessary to succeed as I go on to attend medical school in the coming years,” he added. “I value the excellent level of education I have received and am grateful for it.”
"Maintaining such high GPA's in these rigorous majors is an impressive accomplishment," said Mark Voit, NatSci associate dean for undergraduate studies. "As they go on to whatever comes next, we are proud to have them showing the world what Spartan scientists can achieve."
Bordeaux and Kim received their award at the summer commencement.
