<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><item href="/news/2023-10-making-stem-more-accessible-through-blended-courses.aspx" dsn="blogs"><homehero/><unit>CISGS,College of Natural Science</unit><pubDate>10/24/2023</pubDate><title>Making STEM more accessible through blended courses: MSU's EDLI awarded National Science Foundation grant.</title><description><span><a href="https://edli.msu.edu/">Michigan State University's Enhanced Digital Learning Initiative</a> (EDLI) has been awarded a <a href="https://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=2314930">National Science Foundation</a> (NSF) grant for its project: </span><span>Improving Learning Outcomes and Equity in Blended Online and Face-to-Face Learning</span><i><span>. </span></i><span>Project leads</span><span> <a href="https://caitlinkirby.wordpress.com/2023/10/16/awarded-nsf-iuse-grant-to-study-blended-online-and-in-person-courses/">Caitlin Kirby</a>, EDLI’s Associate Director of Research, and <a href="https://directory.natsci.msu.edu/Directory/Profiles/Person/100272?org=29&amp;group=75">Casey Henley</a>, assistant professor and Director of Online Programs for the MSU <a href="https://neuroscience.natsci.msu.edu/">Neuroscience Program</a>, in collaboration with EDLI’s co-director, <a href="https://directory.natsci.msu.edu/Directory/Profiles/Person/103143?org=29&amp;group=75">Stephen Thomas</a>, will head the three-year, $400K project.</span></description><highlights><ul>

<li><strong>The project will investigate the effect of blended course design features on learning outcomes and equity for students from four historically marginalized groups: </strong>
<ul>

<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><strong>students of underrepresented ethnic minorities</strong></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><strong>students with disabilities</strong></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><strong>first-generation students</strong></li>

</ul>
<ul>
<li><strong>The project will begin on campus this fall and run until 2026.</strong></li>
