MSU NatSci students earn 2017 Board of Trustees' Awards for GPA

Nine College of Natural Science undergraduate students were recognized with MSU Board of Trustees' Awards during the April BOT meeting for maintaining a 4.0 GPA through the close of their last semester in attendance at MSU.

Nine College of Natural Science undergraduate students were recognized with MSU Board of Trustees' Awards during the April BOT meeting for maintaining a 4.0 GPA through the close of their last semester in attendance at MSU.

At the April Michigan State University Board of Trustees meeting, nine College of Natural Science (NatSci) undergraduates were among 52 MSU students recognized with Board of Trustees’ Awards for having the highest scholastic average at the close of their last semester in attendance at Michigan State University.

All awardees received a 4.0 GPA.

"Maintaining a perfect GPA in these rigorous majors is a very impressive accomplishment," said Mark Voit, NatSci associate dean for undergraduate studies. "As they go on to whatever comes next, we are proud to have them showing the world what Spartan scientists can achieve."

In addition to being acknowledged at the board of trustees meeting, the students also will be recognized at their spring commencements May 6-8.

NatSci students who received the award are:

  • Nicole Cappello of Allegan, Mich. Cappello is a zoology major in the College of Natural Science and a member of the Honors College. She is a graduate of Allegan Senior High School.
  • Rebecca Gorz of Clarkston, Mich. Gorz is a human biology major in the College of Natural Science. She is a graduate of Clarkston Senior High School.
  • Thomas Grubb of Haslett, Mich. Grubb is an advanced mathematics major in the College of Natural Science and a member of the Honors College. He is a graduate of Haslett High School.
  • Sandipta Haldar of Troy, Mich. Haldar is a human biology major in the College of Natural Science. He is a graduate of Athens High School.
  • Brooklyn Idalski of Rogers City, Mich. Idalski is a human biology major in the College of Natural Science. She is a graduate of Rogers City High School.
  • Taylor Joseph of Potterville, Mich. Joseph is a mathematics major in the College of Natural Science and a member of the Honors College. She is a graduate of Potterville High School.
  • Moriah Moore of Royal Oak, Mich. Moore is a human biology major in the College of Natural Science and a member of the Honors College. She is a graduate of Royal Oak High School.
  • Harrison Quaal of Gaylord, Mich. Quaal is a genomics and molecular genetics major in the College of Natural Science and a member of the Honors College. He is a graduate of Gaylord High School.
  • Tangyao Zhao of Shanghai, China. Zhao is an actuarial science major in the College of Natural Science. She is a graduate of Sino-Canada High School.
