Beth Koivisto, administrative associate in the NatSci Department of Mathematics, is a 2018 recipient of MSU's Jack Breslin Distinguished Staff Award.

Beth Koivisto, administrative associate in the College of Natural Science’s (NatSci) Department of Mathematics, is one of six Michigan State employees to receive the esteemed 2018 Jack Breslin Distinguished Staff Award.

The $2,500 award is presented annually to university support staff members selected by the Distinguished Staff Awards Selection Committee. The award honors the late Jack Breslin, a student leader, honored athlete and former MSU vice president.

Koivisto, who has been in the mathematics department for almost seven years, received the award for her overall excellence in job performance, her supportive attitude and contributions that lead to improved department effectiveness, and her valuable service to the university.

“Winning the Jack Breslin award is very humbling both personally and professionally,” Koivisto said. “When I think about the effort these folks have put into honoring me, it is overwhelming and I am abundantly grateful.

“Being honored with this award has made me reflect on my career at MSU and every student, parent, staff member, faculty member, administrator and external partner I have had the honor to work with,” Koivisto continued. “No matter what the experience, I have grown from those interactions and relationships and for that I am thankful.”

“It’s hard to express what Beth means to the department because it’s hard to imagine what it would look like without her,” said Keith Promislow, Department of Mathematics chair. “She has reshaped every aspect of our process and it is a privilege to work with her.”

“Beth Koivisto has done an outstanding job since she arrived in the department in 2011,” added Richard Hensh, senior specialist and assistant to the chair. “It has been an honor and a pleasure working with her. She is the ultimate professional.”

Koivisto and other honorees will receive their awards at a reception scheduled for May 21st at 12:30 p.m. in the Kellogg Center.
