Biochemistry & Molecular Biology
This past year was one of transition for Michigan State, and one of reflection for the entire MSU community as it begins the task of healing, culture change and restoring a climate of trust following the Nassar scandal. Trust in the institution is key for students to have the best possible educational experience, and for faculty and staff members to give and be their best as they go about their daily activities and responsibilities.
There is no doubt that Michigan State University is going through a challenging time in its history. Faculty, staff and, most importantly, our students, are feeling a wide range of emotions as we engage in important conversation in the aftermath of the Larry Nassar scandal.
Spring is the season of renewal. This year will be a renewal of the leadership of the department—we are getting things ready for the 10th chair of the MSU Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB).
Our department is affected by the changes occurring in higher education nationwide. I would like to use this year’s message to highlight three areas of change that affect BMB: recruitment of new faculty, teaching and philanthropy.
