There is no doubt that Michigan State University is going through a challenging time in its history. Faculty, staff and, most importantly, our students, have experienced a wide range of emotions as the university community has engaged in important conversations and activities in the aftermath of the Larry Nassar scandal.
Chemists, by our very nature, are inventors. We invent new methods, new models, new materials and, of course, new molecules. You will find stories on some of the department’s more recent inventions in this year’s newsletter.
In this issue, you will find stories on a number of outstanding research advances made over the past year. Not surprisingly, these and other contributions throughout the year have resulted in chemistry faculty members, alumni and students receiving honors and awards for their work.
