Academic Standing of Undergraduate Students (ASUS)
At the end of each semester, fall, spring, and summer grades are reviewed to determine academic standing. You may find the ASUS university policy here.
NatSci students who are recessed may petition for reinstatement by completing this Qualtrics form. Petitioning for reinstatement provides an opportunity for students to have their appeal reviewed regarding their academic progress in their most recent semester(s). This opportunity allows students to share extenuating circumstances that impact(ed) their ability to meet the rigors of the University and strategies for returning to “Good” academic standing. If you have experienced extenuating medical circumstances and would like to discuss a medical withdrawal, please email Danielle Flores Lopez, floresd3@msu.edu and we will discuss the medical leave policy.
Students may submit a petition for reinstatement for a fall or spring semester within the required three consecutive semesters of recess. Petitioning for reinstatement does not guarantee students will be reinstated, and a simple desire to return to the University is not sufficient support for a petition. We expect that students will complete this form for themselves and will not use a third-party service or individual.
If sexual harassment, sexual violence/misconduct, stalking, and/or relationship violence impacted your success, please refer to these incidents as "personal issues" for the purposes of this petition. We may inquire about the nature of your "personal issue(s)" to better support you and your success. Note: Advisors are Responsible Employees (mandatory reporters) and must report all incidents, as defined above, which are shared with us. To file a report on any of these matters please call your local police department or make contact with an MSU Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) representative (517.353.3922)
