NatSci Future Faculty Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

In alignment with the NatSci Strategic Plan towards improving inclusion and increasing the diversity of our faculty, the NatSci Future Faculty Postdoctoral program has now been launched. Up to three postdoctoral fellowships will be available in any area of NatSci that is not already served by a Provost/NatSci funded postdoctoral program.

Potential NatSci Fellows will receive the following:

  • Two years of postdoctoral support;
  • Future faculty development program;
  • Grant proposal training;
  • Mentoring network.

Successful candidates must have completed a doctoral degree and, preferably, will have zero to no more than three years of postdoctoral experience, though others will also be considered. They must have a demonstrated interest in becoming a tenure-track faculty member at a Ph.D.-granting institution, while advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.

An application portal will be available via MSU jobs, and can be advertised more broadly by departments, programs, and faculty.

Faculty with interest in hosting a NatSci postdoctoral fellow must commit to the following:

  • Provide 50% support to the postdoctoral fellow for two years.
  • Support the postdoctoral fellow in at least one professional conference per year.
  • The postdoctoral fellow may work for one mentor or two mentors with 50% or more appointments in NatSci.
  • Agree to active mentorship, training the fellow in grant-writing, and, preferring allowing the fellow to become a Co-PI on a grant application, as appropriate and if allowable, as well as providing further future faculty development and training opportunities.
  • Support the NatSci postdoc in their professional development, supporting their participation in the training program.
  • Provide progress reports to the NatSci Dean’s office twice per year.

At the end of the two-year fellowship program (which can be renewed to a third year, though this must be supported fully by the faculty mentor), the fellow may be considered for a faculty position at MSU, depending upon position availability and success in the program.

Please aid in identifying outstanding candidates for this program.

Candidates can be directed to the MSU jobs site for application information.
