5 Tips for a Successful Transition Back to In-Person Learning

Due to unforeseen circumstances, many of us have become accustomed to the online learning environment. We have adjusted our routine schedules to revolve around Zoom calls and remote learning styles. However, we are currently returning to in-person learning which some students have not been able to quite experience yet. Below are a few tips for you to have a more comfortable transition to in-person learning.

Tip #1: Plan Out Your Day with a Planner
-    Using a planner in college is a must. It is even more important when having to walk to various classes across campus and trying to squeeze in any meal breaks or study time. You can buy a nice planner at any store in EL and write down: class times, study times, club meetings, extracurriculars/work, meal breaks, laundry days, etc.

Tip #2: Re-Introduce Yourself to your Classmates
-    Zoom can often make students feel distant from the real connection with classmates. When you attend your in-person classes, you may be able to recognize some familiar faces from your zoom calls. Go up to your classmates and re-introduce yourself! This can ensure a better connection with your classmates and even lead to some great friendships down the road. While you are at it, also make sure to meet your professor!

Tip #3: Locate Study Spots on Campus
-    You may find yourself to be on campus for a longer period as you have classes to attend throughout the day. It is essential that you try your best to study for your classes during these break times so that you can catch up on schoolwork during the day. There are so many available study spots on campus including:
o    The Main Library
o    The Law Library
o    The Minskoff Pavilion
o    Dorm Lounges

Tip #4: Prioritize Your Mental Health
-    This transitioning time may be difficult for some students as the campus environment can be new and intimidating at times. Make sure to place your mental health above anything else and listen to what your body is telling you. MSU offers Counseling & Psychiatric Services (MSU CAPS) as well as 24/7 virtual crisis counseling. Please reach out to anyone if you are seeking help.

Tip #5: Get Involved
-    Given that we are returning to campus, many student organizations may be offering in-person club gatherings that you could also attend! This is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in campus culture while also finding an activity you enjoy. Check out Involve@State website to view upcoming events from various student organizations!
