Navigating Change: A Transfer Student’s Journey to MSU

Coming to Michigan State from a smaller university was an eye-opening change for me. This transition brought unexpected differences to the forefront. The enormity of the campus initially left me disoriented and navigating a campus this large seemed daunting. However, with time and the establishment of a consistent routine, I gathered my bearings.
Transfer students like myself bring unique insights and perspectives to MSU. Our presence provides an opportunity for innovation and reform on campus to cater to the specific needs of both incoming and current transfer students.
A valuable resource for transfer students is the Transfer Student Advisory Board (TSAB). This organization facilitates connections among fellow transfer students (and even faculty members that were transfer students) through various events throughout the year. The MSU faculty is dedicating to making your transition seamless. If you have questions or concerns, there is likely a specific person that can provide an answer and guide you through any subsequent challenges. If not, they will put you in contact with someone who can offer the necessary help.
I often emphasize the importance of embracing initial discomfort in order to fully settle into a new campus environment. MSU is home to numerous transfer students, whether in classes or student organizations. Engaging in conversations with professors and other students serves not only as a means of networking, but also as a pathway to discovering academic opportunities.
