Faculty and Academic Staff Searches
The college has a structured process to request approval for faculty and academic staff positions and to guide the units and search committees through the institutional and college
approval steps.
**Student employee, graduate student employee, temporary and on-call employees are
exempt from this process.
+ Due date
Rolling application, but typically conducted in the summer or early fall for competitive hiring for the next academic year.
+ Process
As outlined in the NatSci FAS hiring checklist. A summary of first steps is as follows:
- Preliminary approval by the college
- Confirmation of Dean’s interest
- Formal request to the college (NatSci.HR@msu.edu) using FAS Position Preliminary Approval Request Form
- Dean’s approval
- EBS request and approval flow
- Unit enters request in EBS
- University approval process: College (Dean/designee)> Provost (FASA/hiring committee)>MSU HR (approval to post)
- Notification of denial/approval of posting
- Next steps in the checklist to deliver the charge to the committee, schedule training with the hiring guide, and go through the approval steps leading to the final hiring recommendation.
