Faculty and Academic Staff Searches

The college has a structured process to request approval for faculty and academic staff positions and to guide the units and search committees through the institutional and college approval steps.
**Student employee, graduate student employee, temporary and on-call employees are exempt from this process.

+ Due date

Rolling application, but typically conducted in the summer or early fall for competitive hiring for the next academic year.

+ Process

As outlined in the NatSci FAS hiring checklist. A summary of first steps is as follows:

  1. Preliminary approval by the college
    1. Confirmation of Dean’s interest
    2. Formal request to the college (NatSci.HR@msu.edu) using FAS Position Preliminary Approval Request Form
    3. Dean’s approval
  2. EBS request and approval flow
    1. Unit enters request in EBS
    2. University approval process: College (Dean/designee)> Provost (FASA/hiring committee)>MSU HR (approval to post)
    3. Notification of denial/approval of posting
  3. Next steps in the checklist to deliver the charge to the committee, schedule training with the hiring guide, and go through the approval steps leading to the final hiring recommendation.
