ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Summer Global Remote Internship Program enables students to secure a virtual internship with an international company or organization. As part of this experience, students will gain valuable work experience and broaden their professional networks while learning how to communicate and operate in an international virtual environment.  In a world becoming more reliant on connecting, collaborating and performing virtually, remote internships empower students to develop valuable skills for professional success.

NatSci partners with internship provider organizations who identify customized science-related internship placements for each student in organizations such as businesses, start-ups, universities, hospitals, and non-profits. Areas where students might contribute include:

• Advocacy
• Business operations
• Communications
• Data Analytics
• Fundraising
• International Development
• IT & Computer Systems
• Marketing & Social Media
• Policy Analysis
• Research

Participants will be placed in internships with international companies and organizations who are based in global locations including:

Argentina	Australia
China	Ireland
Italy	South Africa
Spain	United Kingdom

Internship Hours & Dates: Summer 2024 – Approx. 6-8 weeks ranging from June 10 - August 9, 2024; 15-20 hours per week (minimum of 120 hours total). All internship placements are unpaid.

Application Deadline: Thursday, March 8 at 11:59 pm (Summer 2024 Program)

Eligibility & Requirements:  Students must be majors in the College of Natural Science; 3.0 minimum GPA; Minimum of junior class standing required; Previous professional experience preferred.

Must be a self-starter with strong time management skills; Must have a reliable computer and Wi-fi connection for meetings via Zoom and other interactive platforms.

Academics:  Students will be enrolled in NSC 493 Internship in Natural Science course for 3 credits during summer 2024. This asynchronous, pass-fail course will be taught online and will include assignments connected with the internship, such as reflections and a portfolio. All Global Remote Internship participants must enroll in this course.

Program Costs: Students are responsible for tuition costs for the required NSC 493 Internship in Natural Science course (3 credits). The program includes placement services, employer-student facilitation by internship provider, and other professional development opportunities.

Beyond tuition cost, there is no additional program fee to participate. However, if a student withdraws from the program or drops the class after submitting a signed agreement to participate, the student will be charged a fee according to the date of withdrawal.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  • Current resume - Prior to applying, we strongly suggest scheduling an appointment with a representative from the Career Services Network to prepare your resume
  • One-page statement of interest addressing the following:
    1. What you hope to gain from the experience including the area/career field you would like to be placed in
    2. How this experience will contribute to your future career goals
    3. Three skills you will bring to the experience and how they prepared you for the experience
• After applications are reviewed, applicants may be invited to schedule a Zoom conversation with a member of the NatSci Team to discuss your goals and review program details
• Students who are accepted by NatSci will have their names, resumes, and interest statements forwarded to one of our placement partners. Students will then receive information on arranging a conversation with a placement coordinator, with whom you will discuss your background, goals, resume, and possible placement areas.
  • Students are encouraged to be as flexible and open-minded as possible about placements, locations, types of work, and other details.
  • Students are responsible for timely responses and professional interactions with your placement coordinators. Failure to respond or engage will result in your removal from the program.
• Placement coordinators will work with their networks to determine a placement for a student. No placement will be considered official or finalized until a student has completed an interview and been approved by the host organization. Students should be aware that they may not know their final placement until shortly (+/- 2 weeks) prior to their internships start date. Flexibility and open-mindedness are key.
