Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (Includes Biochemistry and Molecular Biology/Biotechnology)

Friday August, 25th from 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm: In-person event in the Biochemistry Building. See below for schedule.

3:00 pm – 3:30 am: Biochemistry Building Room 101: Welcome 

3:30 pm – 4:30 pm: Breakout rooms (various rooms in Biochemistry Building) with opportunities to meet BMB faculty, and students. There will be a game to assist with learning about the BMB department, those who complete the game will be entered for a drawing to win a prize! 

 

Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics (Includes Biomedical Laboratory Science and Medical Laboratory Sciences)

Friday, August 25th at 3:00 pm or 4:00 pm (program repeats): In-person event at S105 South Kedzie Hall OR online via Zoom (Zoom link or Meeting ID: 997 1989 7256 - passcode: BLD_FS23).

Incoming Biomedical Laboratory Science students will have the opportunity to meet and ask questions of faculty members, instructors, BLD staff and current upper-level students from the BLD program.

Snacks and cold beverages provided at in-person sessions, and a fun give away drawing at the end. If you plan on attending (RSVP NOT required to attend), please email Dr. Hoag (hoagk@msu.edu) and provide the time you plan on attending, whether in-person or on Zoom, and one question you really want to ask about MSU or BLD.

Chemistry (Includes Chemical Physics)

Friday, August, 25th from 3:00 pm - 5:00pm: In-person event outside in the Biomedical Physical Sciences (BPS) gardens next to the chemistry building entrance.

Incoming Chemistry majors will have the opportunity to meet and ask questions about our programs and courses with Faculty members, and Advisors. We are also extending the invitation to some of our old students to encourage connection building.

 

Computational Mathematics, Science, and Engineering (Includes Data Science)

Friday, August, 25th from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm: In-person College of Engineering Room 1502 & 1503 (In the CMSE department on the first floor)

Welcome to Data Science!  Incoming students will have the chance to meet faculty members and our academic advisor, as well as ask questions about the Data Science major, courses, campus opportunities, and more.  If you have not declared Data Science but are interested in the program, we would love to meet you!

Earth and Environmental Sciences (Geological Sciences; Includes Environmental Geoscience) (EES)

Friday, August 25th from 3:00 pm - 6:00pm:

Location 1: Room 212 Natural Science Building

3-4 pm: Scavenger Hunt! Current EES students will lead tours using a scavenger hunt of EES facilities: visit research labs, meet students and faculty, find your GLG class and lab rooms. This event provides students with the opportunity to speak candidly with current students. Prizes awarded for participation in the hunt. Groups will depart at 3:05, 3:20, and 3:35 pm.

4-6 pm: Sciencing it Up! Demonstrations, discussions, and details of the Earth and Environmental Sciences Majors. Anyone is welcome to visit and explore these science topics and events. Students and faculty will be available during this time to speak to current and potential students. Some specific events include:

Location 2: Outside Room 238 Chemistry Building

3:30 - 4 pm: Are you a major in another discipline, but interested in environmental science? EES is a dynamic and applied discipline that is fundamentally interdisciplinary - EES faculty are jointly appointed throughout the college and university. We want to reach out to students that would like to apply theoretical knowledge to the real-world problems addressed by EES. At this event, meet with faculty members to discuss double majoring or dual degree options.

 

Human Biology

Friday, August 25th from 3:00pm - 5:00pm: In-person event in the STEM Teaching and Learning Facility, Room 1130. Join us at the Human Biology Colloquium to connect with other HBIO students, academic advisors, and faculty. There will be give aways and snacks. Participants will be entered in a drawing for multiple gift cards.

 

Integrative Biology (Includes Zoology and Environmental Biology/Zoology)

Friday, August 25th from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm- Natural Science Building Room 116.  Drop in session, with a discussion panel made up of IBIO faculty, staff, and current students.

 

Friday, August 25th from 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm in Room 105 Natural Science Building.

This will be an opportunity for incoming students to meet with current students, faculty, and staff. The Integrated Science Secondary Education major replaces the Biological Science Secondary Education and Physical Science Secondary Education majors on the NatSci Colloquium website.

Mathematics (Includes Actuarial Science, Computational Mathematics and Advanced Mathematics)

Friday, August 25th from 3:00pm-5:00pm In-person event outside the south entrance of Wells Hall. (In case of inclement weather it will be moved to D101 Wells hall)

Incoming students will be able to converse and ask questions with current students about the programs and their experiences. There will also be faculty representatives such as Dr. Zhou and Brian Chadwick along with others to answer questions.

There will be snacks and give-away items.

Garden Courtyard behind Biomedical Physical Science Building (BPS) - BPS Atrium if weather does not permit

Join members of the MMG community, including Advisors, Faculty, Staff, Alumni, and current students for conversation, give-aways, and a raffle drawing for MSU merch!  

This is a great opportunity to ask questions, explore career paths, learn about research opportunities, tour a research lab in BPS, and make connections with the MMG department.  

We have a lot going on and we want YOU to be a part of it.

Physics and Astronomy (Includes Astrophysics)

Friday, August 25th from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm: In-person event in the Courtyard garden behind Biomedical Physical Sciences (BPS), Chemistry, and Biochemistry buildings. To find us from the BPS building, use the east exit across from Sparty's. (Room 1300 BPS will be a backup in case of inclement weather).

We will have handouts on student clubs and activities. Faculty and current students in our department will be on hand to answer questions, including information about curriculum, research oppurtunities and facilities.

First year students, new transfer students and current students are welcome.

In-person only.  For whatever reason, participation in similar virtual events has been near zero

 

Physiology & Neuroscience

Friday, August 25th from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm: In-person event in the Biomedical Physical Sciences (BPS) building. Check-in will be in Room 1410 BPS.

Event will begin with a welcome and introductions from Department Chair, Dr. Karl Olsen and Academic Advisors, Dr. Lori Seischab, Becky La and Ashley Maloff.  Students will choose which break out session they would like to attend. More information will be mailed out to the students.

Friday, August 25th at 3:00 pm: Ice Cream Social event that will be held in the Gardens behind the Plant Biology building (PLB) (east end of Plant Biology parking lot #46) In the event of rain, we will meet in Room 168 of Plant Biology.

Friday, August 25th from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm: Virtual event via Zoom with faculty and current students.

There will be a presentations from many in the Statistics Department.
